Will of Miles Berkeley of Biggin (-1788)
This is the last Will and Testament of me Miles Berkeley of Biggin in the Parish of Oundle in the County of Northampton ....... I give and bequeath to my son Charles Berkeley the sum of four hundred and sixty five pounds To my son Maurice Berkeley I give the sum of three hundred and fifty two pounds to my son John Berkeley I give the sum of Seven hundred and thirty pounds to my son Rowland Berkeley I give the sum of eight hundred and sixty pounds and tomy daughter Ann Berkeley I give the sum of eight hundred pounds all which .... I wish to be paid ... 9 months next after m death with interest at the rate of four pounds by the hundred pounds by the year to be ... from the time of my decease until the same shall be paid and I do hereby charge all my personal estate and also my real estates in Thurning in the Countys of Northampton and Huntingdon and in .... in the County of Bedford with the payment of the said .... and I give and devise to my eldest son Charles Berkeley all my said real estates in Thurning and .... aforesaid with all and singular the rights ..... and appurtengures thereto belonging to hold to him my said son Charles Berkeley his heirs and assigns for ... subject to and chargeable with the payment of the said .... and I also give to him my said son Charles Berkeley his heirs and assigns for ... all other my real estates whatsoever and I give and bequeath to my said son Charles Berkeley all my personal estate whatsoever with my personal esate being chargeable with the ..... ..... and my debts and funeral expenses and I do make constitute and appoint my said son Charles Berkeley full and sole executor of this my last will and testamentand I revoke all former wills by me made for ..... ..... by the said Charles Berkeley the .... .... to this will my last will and Testament contained in two sheets of paper set with hand and seal that is to say to the first sheet my hand and to this second sheet my hand and seal this twelth day of June in the twenty eighth year of the reign of his Majesty King George the third and in the year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and eighty eight The mark of (mark not signed) of Miles Berkeley (seal) Signed sealed .... and .... by the said Miles Berkeley the Testator as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who in his presence and at the request have inscribed our names as witnesses thereto. This will was proved at London the twentieth day of December in the year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and eighty eight before the Worshipful George Soames Porter of .... and Surrogate of the Right Worshipful Sir William .... Knight Porter of ..... Keeper of Commissary of the Perogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oath of Charles Berkeley the son of the deaceased and sole executor named in the said will to whom administration was granted of all and singular the goods and chattels and credits of the said persons he having been first sworn duly to administer.
